Welcome to Moonlighter Labradors!  Since 1991 we have been breeding, raising, and selling high-quality Labrador Retrievers with many customers now returning for their 3rd, 4th or even 5th lab puppy from us! At  Moonlighter Labradors, we work hard to bring you the best genetics & bloodlines possible. We look throughout the United States for Dogs with  Hunt Test or Field Trial backgrounds, with no “cross-breeding or line breeding".This creates unnecessary genetically-related health problems on Labrador puppies & adults, and eventually additional DVM expenses for you. We screen for health issues by DNA registrations,OFA-Hips, PENN-Hips, OFA-Elbows, CERF-Eye health clearances, EIC AND CNM on our breeding adults as well all past generations. We DO NOT breed any adults unless we have negative findings for EIC, CNM, hip & elbow dysplatia among others. We find good homes for any adults found defective on any of the above, and DO NOT BREED them. Most people think "I'll pay $200,$300 for a cheap Lab puppy & still get a good dog".You're buying from"backyard breeder"-someone who doesn't do any DVM health screenings on their breeding adults for hips, eyes, elbows-but they charge you the same dollars.  Several months or years later, this "cheap Labrador" are now costing you thousands of dollars for DVM expenses due to poor genetics. If you buy from us, the initial cost is higher-but YOU WON'T have 12-15 years of unnecessary DVM bills. Here you buy GREAT HEALTH & a GREAT PUP! In the Summer 2006, we had someone buy a lab puppy (not from us!) for~$400. In 6 months, the dog had hip dysplatia. There is a surgical procedure to correct but starts at ~$2000 per hip. And that's no guarantee. We get many DVM referrals-someone put their dog down because of early genetic health problems at 4-5 yo, auto crashes, or just old age.. They ask  DVM's "where can I find a pup with great genetics so I can enjoy them for their full life?"...Moonlighter Labrador's is called. Our Adult Labradors are selected for their desire to retrieve, need to please, lack of genetic defects, great behavior & "blockiness" or conformation. Our adults are the "English Background"- big, blocky heads, big chests, slender waists, & otter tail. Our puppies are raised in a home environment & are well-socialized from birth on. As they age, they are introduced to game birds scents, gunfire, & water retrieving as we also operate a Wisconsin DNR Game Farm. All of this-Great Genetics, FC/AFC bloodlines, DVM Genetic Screenings & Certifications, Training, & Socialization produces a puppy great for hunting & could participate in hunt tests & field trials.  More importantly, our puppies are an excellent addition to your family.                 PUPPY VISITS
We've a new policy for visiting puppies.  The situation was my fault for not realizing it at the time. In Summer 2008, we allowed people to visit before the pups were weaned from mom at 3-4 weeks. One person accidentally dropped a puppy. It later died.  The same day we allowed people to handle 2 black pups at 5 days old. They handled the pups heavily. Because our scent was not on the pups,  the mom KILLED the 2 puppies. Our DVM's now RECOMMENDS no puppy visits until weaned completely away from Mom's at ~3-4 weeks. Sorry, that's our new policy. NO VISITS ANY PUPS UNTIL WEANED AWAY FROM 
           THEIR MOMS !!!
